Hot Dice (10,000 Dice Game)
A classic push-your-luck dice game. Every roll you keep some scoring dice and decide: bank the points you have, or roll the rest for more and risk losing the lot. Also known as 10,000 or Ten Thousand.
How to play Hot Dice
- Start your turn by rolling all six dice. Set aside at least one scoring die (tap to select), then either Bank your turn points or Roll the dice that are left.
- Scoring: a single 1 is 100, a single 5 is 50. Three of a kind is the number × 100, except three 1s, which is 1,000. Each extra matching die doubles a three of a kind (four 2s = 400, five 2s = 800).
- Six-dice combinations: a run of 1–6 scores 1,500, three pairs score 1,500 and two triples score 2,500. Combinations only count within a single roll.
- If a roll has nothing that scores, you bust: your points for this turn are lost and play passes on.
- Hot dice: if all six dice end up set aside as scorers, you get to roll all six again and keep building your turn total.
- When someone banks enough to reach the goal (10,000 by default), every other player gets one last turn to beat them. Highest score wins. Points only — nothing is wagered.
Controls
- Tap or click dice to set them aside, then use Roll or Bank.
- Keyboard: Space/R roll, B bank, 1–6 select dice, A pick all scoring dice.
Tips
- You do not have to keep every scoring die. Setting aside a single 1 and rolling five dice is often better than keeping a lone 5 as well.
- The fewer dice you have left, the riskier the next roll: with one or two dice, banking a few hundred points is usually wise.
- With three or more dice left and a small turn total, rolling on is almost always worth it.
- In the final round you must beat the leader, so there is no reason to bank short — keep rolling.
FAQ
What are the rules of the 10000 dice game?
Roll six dice and set aside at least one scoring die each roll: a 1 is 100, a 5 is 50 and three of a kind is the number × 100 (three 1s are 1,000). Then bank your turn total or roll the dice that are left. A roll with nothing that scores is a bust and loses the turn's points. If all six dice score you roll all six again. First to 10,000 wins.
How does the computer decide when to bank?
The Expert computer calculates the expected points of rolling again for every possible turn total and number of dice, and banks when stopping is worth more. Careful banks a little sooner, and Relaxed follows simple rules of thumb.
What is the "open with 500" rule?
An optional house rule: you must score at least 500 in a single turn before your first bank counts. After that you can bank any amount.
Does this game involve betting?
