Reversi
A two-color strategy game where every move can swing the board. Sandwich your opponent’s discs between your own to flip them, and finish with the most discs of your color.
How to play Reversi
- The game starts with four discs in the center. Dark moves first.
- Place a disc so that one or more straight lines (across, down or diagonal) of your opponent’s discs are trapped between the new disc and another of yours. All trapped discs flip to your color.
- Every move must flip at least one disc. If you have no such move, your turn is passed automatically; if neither player can move, the game ends.
- When the game ends, the player with more discs on the board wins.
Controls
- Tap or click a highlighted square to play there. With hints on, small dots mark every legal move.
- Undo takes back your last move (and the computer’s reply). Choose your color and the computer’s strength in the menus.
Tips
- Corners can never be flipped. Grab them whenever you can, and avoid the squares right next to an empty corner.
- Having more discs early is not an advantage — it often gives your opponent more options. Aim to keep your own choices wide and theirs narrow.
- Edges are strong, but an edge disc that can be outflanked may hand your opponent a corner.
- Count near the end: the last few moves can flip a whole row.
FAQ
What happens if I can’t move?
You pass and your opponent plays again. The game only ends when neither side has a legal move — usually when the board is full.
How strong is Hard?
Hard looks several moves ahead, values corners and mobility, and plays the last moves of the game perfectly when it can see to the end. Easy and Medium leave more openings.
