Klondike Solitaire
The best-known patience game of all. Build four suit piles from Ace to King by moving cards around seven columns — choose easy-going Draw 1 or the trickier Draw 3.
How to play Klondike Solitaire
- Goal: move all 52 cards onto the four foundation piles at the top right, one pile per suit, building up from Ace to King.
- In the seven columns, stack cards in descending order with alternating colours — for example a red 6 on a black 7. You may move a whole ordered group at once.
- Only a King (or a group starting with a King) can be moved into an empty column.
- When you move the last face-up card off a column, the face-down card beneath turns over.
- Tap the stock (top left) to turn over one card (Draw 1) or three cards (Draw 3). The top card of the waste pile is available to play. When the stock runs out, tap the empty slot to turn the waste back over — as often as you like.
- Scoring: +10 for each card sent to a foundation, +5 for a waste card played to a column, +5 for each card turned face up, −15 for taking a card back off a foundation, and a penalty for turning the waste over (−100 in Draw 1, −20 in Draw 3). Winning adds a time bonus.
Controls
- Drag a card or group onto another pile, or tap it to send it to the best legal spot.
- Double-tap a card to send it straight to its foundation.
- Keyboard: Space or D draws, U or Ctrl+Z undoes, H shows a hint, A runs auto-complete, N starts a new game.
Tips
- Turning over face-down cards matters more than anything else — favour moves that uncover a hidden card, especially in the longest columns.
- Don't rush to empty a column unless you have a King ready to fill it.
- Sending low cards (Aces and 2s) up straight away is always safe; be more careful with higher cards, which you may still need as landing spots.
- In Draw 3, every card you play from the waste changes which cards come up on the next pass — plan a little ahead.
FAQ
What is the difference between turn 1 and turn 3?
In turn 1 (Draw 1) each tap on the stock turns over a single card, so you can reach every card on every pass. In turn 3 (Draw 3) three cards turn over at once and only the top one can be played, which makes Klondike harder. Switch between them with Draw in the toolbar.
Can every deal be won?
No — some random deals are impossible. With Winnable deals selected (the default) you only get deals our solver has already beaten, so a win is always possible.
What is the daily deal?
Everyone gets the same winnable deal each day. Win it on consecutive days to build a daily streak.
When does auto-complete appear?
As soon as every card in the columns is face up and the rest of the game can be finished automatically, an Auto-complete button appears.
