Golf Solitaire
A short, satisfying patience game scored like its namesake sport — the fewer cards you leave behind, the better your score.
How to play Golf Solitaire
- Thirty-five cards are dealt face up into seven columns of five. One card starts the waste pile and the other 16 form the stock.
- Move the bottom card of any column onto the waste if it is one rank higher or lower than the waste card — a 9 or a Jack on a 10. Suits do not matter.
- By default Kings and Aces do not connect. Choose K–A wrap for an easier game where they do.
- When you cannot play, tap the stock to turn over a new waste card.
- The game ends when every column is cleared or the stock is empty and no card fits.
- Your score is the number of cards left in the columns. Clear them all and you score minus the cards still in the stock — so lower is always better.
Controls
- Tap a column's bottom card to play it, or drag it onto the waste. Tap the stock to draw.
- Keyboard: Space or D draws, U or Ctrl+Z undoes, H shows a hint, N starts a new game.
Tips
- Before you play, look a few cards ahead: pick the column that lets you keep a run going.
- Kings are tricky without wrap — only a Queen can follow a King, so try to clear them while a Queen is on the waste.
- Draw only when you have no other play.
FAQ
Why is a low score good?
Like a round of golf, every card you leave behind is a stroke against you. Clearing the table with stock cards to spare gives a negative — excellent — score.
Can I undo?
Yes, every play and draw can be undone, as many times as you like.
