Icebreaker Questions Generator
A random icebreaker question generator for team meetings, offsites, workshops and classrooms. Every question was written to be work-safe: nothing about age, health, money, politics, religion or family life, so nobody is put on the spot.
How to play Icebreaker Questions Generator
- Pick the decks you want with the chips above the card: Quick Warm-ups, Favorites, Work Style, What If, Team & Projects, Show & Tell and Fun Facts.
- Put the page on a shared screen or a TV, or hold up a phone. Read the question out loud and go around the room.
- Add names with Players and the card shows whose turn it is to answer first. Everyone else can answer too, or you can move straight on.
- Set the timer (10 to 60 seconds) to keep each answer short in a big group. The card moves on by itself when time runs out.
- Press Next question, swipe the card or press Space. The deck is shuffled and does not repeat until every question has been shown.
Controls
- Space, Enter or →: next question
- ←: previous question
- Swipe the card on a phone
Tips
- In a group of more than ten, split into smaller circles and give each circle its own screen or phone.
- Let people pass. A quick “pass” keeps the mood light and nobody feels pressured.
- On video calls, the Show & Tell deck gets everyone moving and showing something from their desk.
- For a 5-minute meeting warm-up, use the Quick Warm-ups deck with a 20-second timer.
FAQ
What makes an icebreaker question work-safe?
It is easy to answer, has no wrong answer and does not ask about private topics. The questions here stay away from age, health, money, politics, religion, relationships and family status, and none of them ask people to admit to mistakes in front of colleagues.
How long should an icebreaker take?
For a regular meeting, one question each with a 20 or 30 second timer is usually enough. For an offsite or a new team, plan 10 to 20 minutes and mix a warm-up deck with a deeper deck such as Team & Projects.
Do these icebreakers work on video calls?
Yes. Share your screen with the page open, add everyone with Players so turns are clear, and try the Show & Tell deck, which asks people to hold up something nearby.
Is there a holiday version?
Yes. The holiday icebreaker page uses inclusive Holiday Season, Winter and New Year decks that fit an office holiday party without assuming which holidays people celebrate.
