Crazy Eights Card Game
Crazy Eights is the classic shedding game played with an ordinary 52-card deck. Match the card on top of the pile, use eights to change the suit, and be the first to get rid of every card.
How to play Crazy Eights Card Game
- With one opponent each player gets 7 cards; with two or three opponents everyone gets 5. The next card is turned face up to start the discard pile (an 8 is shuffled back and another card turned).
- On your turn play one card that matches the suit or the rank of the top discard. For example, on the 7♥ you may play any heart or any 7.
- Every 8 is wild: play it on anything and name the suit the next player must match.
- If you have no card you can play, draw from the stock one card at a time until you can. When the stock runs out the discards (except the top card) are shuffled into a new stock. If there is truly nothing to draw, you pass.
- The first player to empty their hand wins the hand and scores the cards left in the other hands: 50 for each 8, 10 for each K, Q or J, 1 for an ace and face value for the rest.
- If nobody can play or draw, the hand is blocked: the player with the lowest count scores the difference to each other hand.
- The game is won by the first player to reach the target: 100 points against one opponent, 150 against two and 200 against three.
Controls
- Tap a highlighted card to play it. Cards that do not match are dimmed.
- After tapping an 8, pick the new suit from the buttons below your hand.
- Tap the stock (or press D) to draw when you have no playable card.
- Use Opponents in the toolbar to play against one, two or three computer players.
Tips
- Save your eights for when you are stuck: they are worth 50 points against you if you are caught holding one, but they are your only escape from a bad suit.
- Play high cards (kings, queens, jacks) early so they cost less if someone else goes out.
- When an opponent is down to one or two cards, change the suit to one they recently drew on.
- Holding several cards of the same rank lets you switch suits without using an eight.
FAQ
How do you play Crazy Eights?
Take turns playing a card that matches the top of the discard pile by suit or by rank. Eights are wild: play one on anything and name the next suit. If you cannot play, draw from the stock until you can. The first player to empty their hand wins the hand.
What are the Crazy Eights rules for scoring?
The player who goes out scores the cards left in the other hands: 50 for each 8, 10 for each king, queen or jack, 1 for an ace and face value for the rest. The first to 100 points wins against one opponent (150 with two, 200 with three).
Can I draw even if I have a card I could play?
Not here. You only draw when no card in your hand can be played, which keeps every turn quick.
Do other cards have special powers?
No. In this traditional version only eights are special. Every other card simply matches by suit or rank.
Is my game saved?
Yes. The current hand and scores are stored in your browser and resume when you come back.
