Fraction Games for Kids
Hands-on fraction games with pictures kids understand: pizzas cut into equal slices and fraction bars. Name a fraction, build one by tapping slices, compare two fractions or find an equivalent fraction, all with friendly read-aloud help.
How to play Fraction Games for Kids
- Pick a level. Grades 1–2 use halves, thirds and fourths; Grade 3 goes up to eighths; Grade 4+ goes up to twelfths and mixes every kind of comparison.
- Name the fraction: count the shaded parts (the top number) and all the equal parts (the bottom number), then tap the matching fraction.
- Build it: tap pizza slices or bar parts to shade them until the picture shows the fraction, then press Check. Any slices will do, as long as the count is right.
- Compare: choose <, = or > to make the sentence true. The pictures help you see which fraction is bigger.
- Equivalent: find the missing top number so both fractions are the same amount, like 1/2 = 2/4.
- Choose Pizza, Bar or Both pictures. Each right answer earns a star, and 90% right earns three stars for the round.
Controls
- Tap or click an answer, or press 1–4.
- In Build it, tap slices to shade or unshade them (or press the number keys 1–9), then press Check or Enter.
- Press 🔊 to hear the question again; Read aloud in the toolbar mutes the voice.
Tips
- The bottom number (denominator) tells how many equal parts the whole is cut into. The top number (numerator) tells how many parts you have.
- With the same bottom number, more parts is more: 5/8 is greater than 3/8.
- With the same top number, smaller pieces mean less: 1/8 of a pizza is smaller than 1/3, because eighths are thinner slices.
- To make an equivalent fraction, multiply the top and bottom by the same number: 2/3 = 4/6 = 8/12.
FAQ
What grade learns fractions?
Children start with halves and fourths of shapes in grades 1 and 2. Third grade introduces fractions as numbers and comparing them, and fourth grade adds equivalent fractions and more denominators. The three levels here follow that order.
How do you compare fractions?
If the bottom numbers match, compare the top numbers. If the top numbers match, the fraction with the smaller bottom number is bigger. Otherwise, rewrite them with the same bottom number or compare the pictures.
What are equivalent fractions?
Fractions that name the same amount, like 1/2, 2/4 and 4/8. Half a pizza is the same no matter how many slices it is cut into.
Why use pizza and bar models?
Pictures show that a fraction is equal parts of one whole. Pizzas make the idea friendly, and bars make it easy to line up and compare sizes.
