A quick-reflex whack a mole game for mouse, touch or keyboard. Moles pop out of nine holes; bonk each one before it ducks back down and build a combo for double and triple points.

How to play Whack a Mole Game

• Moles pop up from the nine holes at random. Tap, click or press the matching key to bonk a mole while it is up.
• A plain mole is worth 10 points. A shiny gold mole is worth 25 but hides again quickly. A mole in a hard hat needs two bonks and is worth 20.
• Leave the spiky hedgehogs alone: bonking one costs 15 points and resets your combo.
• Every bonk in a row adds to your combo. From 8 in a row your hits score double, and from 15 in a row they score triple. Swinging at an empty hole or letting a mole escape resets the combo.
• In the 60-second round you score as much as you can before the clock runs out. In Survival there is no clock, but every mole that gets away (or hedgehog you bonk) costs one of your five lives.
• Moles speed up as the round goes on. Your best score is saved for each level and mode.

Controls

• Mouse or touch: tap or click a mole. The tap area covers the mole and its mound, so you do not need to be pixel-perfect.
• Keyboard: the holes follow a number-pad layout. 7 8 9 are the top row, 4 5 6 the middle, 1 2 3 the bottom. Q W E / A S D / Z X C work too.
• Space or Enter starts a round. P or Esc pauses.

Tips

• Watch the whole field instead of chasing one hole: your eyes find the next mole faster than your hand.
• Keep the combo going. Twenty careful hits at triple points beat thirty wild swings that keep resetting it.
• Hard-hat moles stay up a little longer after the first clang, so hit them twice calmly.
• On a keyboard, rest three fingers on 7, 4 and 1 (or Q, A, Z) and slide across.
