Daily Five-Letter Word Guessing Game
A fresh five-letter word is hidden every day, and everyone gets the same one. Use the color clues from each guess to close in on the answer in six tries or fewer.
How to play Daily Five-Letter Word
- Find the hidden five-letter word in six guesses. Type a real word and press Enter.
- After each guess every tile changes color and shape: a circle means the letter is in the right spot, a leaf-shaped tile means it is in the word but somewhere else, and a dimmed square means the letter is not in the word.
- Repeated letters are counted exactly: if the answer has one E and you guess two, only one E lights up.
- The on-screen keyboard keeps track of what you have learned, so you can see which letters are still worth trying.
- Everyone gets the same word on the same day. Your progress is saved, so you can leave and come back. A new puzzle unlocks at midnight in your time zone.
Controls
- Type on your keyboard, or tap the on-screen keys.
- Enter submits a guess, Backspace deletes a letter.
Tips
- Open with a word that uses five different common letters, such as a mix of vowels and letters like R, S, T, L and N.
- A dimmed key rules a letter out completely — avoid it on later guesses unless you are fishing for information.
- Turn on Hard mode before your first guess for an extra challenge: every hint you uncover must be used in the guesses that follow.
- Stuck after the daily word? The practice page has unlimited words to warm up with.
FAQ
Where do the answers come from?
We wrote our own list of several hundred common, everyday five-letter words and shuffled it into our own daily order. Guesses are checked against a much larger dictionary, so unusual words are accepted as guesses but will never be the answer.
Is there a color-blind friendly option?
Yes. Turn on Color-blind friendly colors in the site settings (the gear icon) to switch to an orange and blue palette. Tiles also use different shapes, so you can read the clues without relying on color at all.
What does the share button copy?
A small grid of colored circles that shows how your game went — without giving away any letters — plus the puzzle number.
