Guess the Word
A word guessing game of clues and hunches. Each mystery word comes with five clues that start vague and get more obvious. Guess early for big points, or wait for a safer clue and score less.
How to play Guess the Word
- A round has 10 mystery words. You start with one clue and the number of letters in the answer.
- Type your guess and press Guess. A right answer on clue 1 scores 5 points, on clue 2 scores 4, and so on down to 1 point on the final clue.
- A wrong guess shows the next clue. If you are wrong after the fifth clue, the word is lost and the next one appears.
- Not ready to guess? Press Next clue. Reveal a letter shows the next letter of the answer for 1 point, and Give up skips the word.
- Plurals count, so CAMELS is accepted for CAMEL.
- Party mode is for groups: one person reads the clues aloud, two teams shout their guesses, and the reader awards the points to whichever team gets it first.
Controls
- Type in the box and press Enter to guess.
- In party mode, tap the buttons to show the next clue, reveal the answer to the reader, and award points.
Tips
- The first clue is deliberately broad. Think of a few candidates and see which one the next clue rules out.
- Use the letter count: it often settles a choice between two similar ideas.
- Guessing early is free: a wrong guess just shows the next clue, which you would have seen anyway. The only cost comes after the last clue.
FAQ
How do you play guess the word?
You read a clue about a hidden word and try to name it. Each wrong guess unlocks another, more helpful clue. Solve it in as few clues as possible to score the most points.
How does scoring work?
Guessing on the first clue is worth 5 points, then 4, 3, 2 and 1. Each revealed letter takes 1 point off that word (never below 1). A round of 10 words is worth up to 50 points.
Can I play it as a party game?
Yes. Switch the mode to Party. One player reads the clues aloud, two teams race to guess, and the reader taps which team got it. Teams take turns going first, and fewer clues still means more points.
Who writes the clues?
