Word Association Game
How quickly can you link one idea to the next? A word appears, four choices appear below it, and only one is a natural partner. Pick it fast, and your answer becomes the next word in a chain that keeps growing until you run out of lives.
How to play Word Association Game
- Press Start. A word appears at the top with four choices underneath.
- Tap the choice that goes best with the word: something you would naturally think of together, such as SUN and MOON or BREAD and BUTTER.
- The word you pick becomes the next word, so the chain keeps going. If a word has no fresh links left, the game jumps to a new starting word.
- A right answer scores 10 points, up to 10 more for speed, and a streak bonus. A wrong pick or running out of time costs a life, and the chain carries on through the right answer.
- You have three lives. Easy gives 12 seconds per word, Medium 8 and Hard just 5.
Controls
- Tap or click a choice.
- Keyboard: press 1–4 to pick a choice, Enter to start.
Tips
- Go with your first instinct. The right answer is always a common, everyday pairing.
- Wrong choices are picked to be unrelated, so if one option clearly belongs to the same topic, that is your answer.
- Speed matters for points, but a lost life matters more. On Hard, a quick sure answer beats a fast guess.
FAQ
What is the word association game?
It is a game about connecting ideas: one word leads to another that is naturally linked to it, like rain and umbrella. Here the computer gives you a word and four options, and you pick the one that belongs with it, building a chain of linked words.
How do you play word association as a party game?
In a group, sit in a circle. The first player says any word, and each player in turn must quickly say a word linked to the previous one. Hesitate too long, repeat a word, or give a link nobody accepts, and you are out. This online version is great practice, or play it together and take turns choosing.
How is the score calculated?
Every right answer is worth 10 points plus up to 10 for answering quickly. Each answer in a row adds a streak bonus of 2 points, up to 20 extra per word.
