Lights Out Game
A classic toggle puzzle: every press flips a little cross of lights. Work out which squares to press to plunge the whole board into darkness, ideally in the fewest moves.
How to play Lights Out Game
- The board is a grid of lights. Some start on; your goal is to switch every light off.
- Pressing a light toggles it and the lights directly above, below, left and right of it. Diagonals are not affected.
- Every puzzle can be solved. The Par number shows the fewest presses possible — try to match it.
- The order of presses does not matter, and pressing the same light twice cancels out.
- In Solver mode, copy any pattern of lit squares and the marked squares show exactly which ones to press.
Controls
- Tap / click a light to press it
- Arrow keys move, Space / Enter press, Z undo, H hint
Tips
- Chase the lights down: press the square directly below each lit light in the top row, then repeat row by row. The bottom row is left with a pattern you can learn to fix.
- Pressing a square twice undoes it, so a shortest solution never presses any square more than once.
- Order never matters — if you know which squares to press, press them in any sequence.
- Stuck? Hint highlights one square from a shortest solution.
FAQ
How do you play Lights Out?
Tap a light to toggle it and its four neighbours. Lit ones go dark and dark ones light up. Keep pressing until every light on the board is off.
Is every Lights Out puzzle solvable?
Not every random pattern is — on a 5×5 board only one pattern in four can be switched off. Our puzzles are built by pressing squares on a dark board, so every one we deal you has a solution.
What is the trick to solving Lights Out?
Use “light chasing”: for each lit light, press the square directly below it, working down one row at a time. That pushes all the lights to the bottom row. Then press the matching squares in the top row and chase again to clear the board.
What does Par mean?
Par is the fewest presses that can solve the puzzle, found by our solver. Matching it earns a perfect solve.
