Free Mahjong Solitaire
Free mahjong in your browser: a relaxing tile-matching solitaire played with a full set of mahjong tiles. Pick matching pairs of free tiles and clear the whole stack — every deal is built so it can be cleared.
How to play Free Mahjong Solitaire
- Tiles are stacked in a layout of several layers. Click or tap two identical tiles to remove them as a pair.
- Only free tiles can be picked: nothing may lie on top of them, and their left side or their right side must be open. Tiles above and below do not block sideways.
- Any flower matches any other flower, and any season matches any other season. Every other tile needs an exact twin.
- Clear every tile to win. If no free pair is left, use Shuffle to mix the remaining tiles into a new arrangement that can still be cleared, or Undo.
- Pick from seven layouts, or play the Daily layout: the same layout and deal for everyone today.
Controls
- Tap / click a free tile to select it, then tap its twin. Tap a selected tile again to deselect it.
- Hint highlights a matching pair (press again for another). Show free dims every tile you cannot pick yet.
- Big tiles makes the tiles larger on small screens — scroll the board sideways to see all of it.
- Keyboard: H for a hint, U or Z to undo, S to shuffle, Esc to clear the selection.
Tips
- Work from the top and from the long rows’ ends: removing tiles that cover or flank many others opens up the board fastest.
- When three or four copies of a tile are free, think before you pick — choose the pair that frees more tiles.
- Watch for a tile stacked on its own twin: that pair can only be cleared with the other two copies.
- The Tower and Pyramid layouts are narrow, so the tiles stay large on a phone.
FAQ
Can every game be won?
Yes. Each deal is built by removing pairs of free tiles from the full layout one step at a time, so a winning order always exists. You can still get stuck by choosing a different order — that is what Undo and Shuffle are for.
What do the tiles mean?
There are three suits numbered 1–9 (circles, bamboo sticks and characters with the 萬 sign), four winds (東 east, 南 south, 西 west, 北 north), three dragons (red 中, green 發 and a white framed tile), plus four flowers and four seasons. Character and wind tiles carry a small number or letter in the corner to help you read them.
Is my game saved?
Yes. The board, your undo history and the timer are saved in this browser, so you can come back later.
Is this mahjong game really free?
Yes. All seven layouts and the daily layout are free to play in your browser, with no download, sign-up or time limit.
