2048 Game
Every move slides all the tiles on the board at once. When two tiles with the same number bump into each other they fuse into one tile worth double. Keep merging upward until a 2048 tile appears.
How to play 2048 Game
- Swipe on the board, or press the arrow keys or W A S D, to slide every tile as far as it can go in that direction.
- Two touching tiles with the same number merge into their sum: 2 + 2 makes 4, 4 + 4 makes 8, and so on. A tile can only merge once per move.
- After each move a new 2 (or sometimes a 4) appears in an empty square.
- Your score grows by the value of every merged tile. Reach 2048 to win — then keep going for a higher score if you like.
- The game ends when the board is full and no neighbouring tiles match.
Controls
- Swipe or arrow keys / WASD: slide tiles
- U or Ctrl+Z: undo one move (when undo is on)
Tips
- Pick a corner and keep your biggest tile parked there. Most strong games only ever use three of the four directions.
- Build a descending chain along one edge (for example 256, 128, 64, 32) so merges roll toward the corner like dominoes.
- Avoid the move that pulls your big tile out of its corner unless you have no other choice.
- Bigger boards are more forgiving; 3×3 is a tense challenge where reaching 256 counts as a win.
FAQ
Can I keep playing after reaching 2048?
Yes. Choose Keep playing in the dialog and carry on toward 4096 and beyond. Your score keeps counting.
How does undo work?
Undo takes back your last move, including the new tile that appeared. You can switch it off in the toolbar if you prefer a pure challenge.
Is my game saved?
Yes. The board, score and best score for each board size are stored in this browser, so you can close the tab and continue later.
How do you win the 2048 game?
Merge tiles until one of them reads 2048. Keep your highest tile in a corner, build a falling chain of values along one edge and use only three directions whenever you can.
