How to play Multiplication Chart
- The number at the top of each column and the start of each row are the two numbers being multiplied. The square where a row and column meet holds their product: row 7 and column 8 meet at 56.
- Tap any square to highlight its row and column and see the fact written out, such as 7 × 8 = 56. Tap a number in the top row or left column to light up that whole times table.
- Use Chart size to switch between a 10 × 10, 12 × 12, 15 × 15 or 20 × 20 multiplication chart.
- Choose Single table to see one times table as a list, for example the 7 times table from 7 × 1 to 7 × 12. Tap a number to switch tables.
- Choose Fill the chart to practice. Answers are hidden (all of them, half, or just a few); type each product and press Check. Right answers turn green, ones to fix turn red. Your answers are saved, so you can finish later.
- Print gives a clean black-on-white chart. In practice mode it prints a blank chart to fill in by hand; in single-table view it prints that one table.
Controls
- Tap or click a square to highlight it. On a keyboard, use the arrow keys to move around the chart and Esc to clear.
- In practice mode, type a number and press Enter to jump to the next empty square.
- In single-table view, the arrow keys step to the previous or next table.
Tips
- Learn the easy tables first: 1, 2, 5 and 10. Then the chart is already more than half full.
- Every fact appears twice on the chart: 3 × 8 and 8 × 3 are both 24. Learn one and you know the other, which halves the work.
- The squares on the diagonal (1, 4, 9, 16, 25…) are the square numbers. They are worth knowing by heart.
- For the 9 times table, the digits of each answer add up to 9 (18, 27, 36…), and the tens digit is one less than the number you multiply by.
- For the 11 times table up to 11 × 9, just repeat the digit: 11 × 4 = 44.
FAQ
What is a multiplication chart?
A multiplication chart (also called a multiplication table or times table chart) is a grid where the numbers across the top and down the left are multiplied together. The square where a row and column meet holds the product: row 6 and column 7 meet at 42.
How do you use a multiplication chart?
Find the first number in the left column and the second number in the top row, then follow the row across and the column down until they meet. Tap any square here and its row and column light up so you can see the path.
How do I learn the multiplication chart fast?
Start with the 1, 2, 5 and 10 rows, then 3, 4 and 11, and save 6, 7, 8 and 12 for last. Every fact appears twice (3 × 8 and 8 × 3), so the chart has only 78 different facts. Use Fill the chart to test yourself a few minutes each day.
How do I print a multiplication chart as a PDF?
Press Print, then choose Save as PDF as the destination in your browser’s print dialog. The chart is black on white, fits one Letter or A4 page, and uses no ink-heavy backgrounds.
Is there a multiplication chart to 100 or beyond 12?
Yes. Use the Chart size menu for 15 × 15 or 20 × 20. For the numbers 1 to 100 in order, see the hundreds chart.
